General Information

What do I need to hire a car?

You need to be held of a valid driving license with a minimum standing of three years and to be also held of a credit card. The minimum age of the hirer must be 23 years old.

Can I collect the car at any time?

At the airport offices, car collection can usually be done 24 hours a day, as long as you provide us with your flight details and arrival time. At other Solmar branches have more fixed timetable, generally from 09.00-13.00 and 16.00-19.30 from Monday to Friday, and from 09.00-13.00 Saturdays. Sundays and local holidays they remain closed.

How do we collect my car if the flight arrives very late at night or it's been delayed?

At the airport offices, car collection can usually be done 24 hours a day, as long as you provide us with your flight details and arrival time.

Can we return the car in a different Solmar location where we picked it up?

Yes, you can but the price for the hire car may increase, if you hire a car a week or less.

Can I drive the car to another country?

Yes, you can drive to other European countries with prior Solmar consent and paying an extra European insurance. It is completely forbidden to drive in North African countries, (Morocco, Algeria, etc.)

What will I do if my car breaks down?

All our cars are new and replaced after 6-8 months of use. Should any failure occur you may call the car hire company and they will solve the problem as quickly as possible.

How much will I pay for a full tank of fuel?

Obviously the price of fuel will depend on the model of car, pick up location, and the price of fuel at the time. The price varies from 35€ Euros for small cars and up to 85€ for the larger ones.

Can all the members of my family or friends drive our hired car?

No, only those specified in the contract may drive the hired car. We offeer you the possibility to contract up to 4 drivers in total.

The Quoted Price includes:
  • Airport taxes (except Barcelona airport)

  • Unlimited mileage (except group I & J)
  • 1st additional driver
  • Tax (I.V.A)
The insurance excludes:
  • Lost or damaged keys, punctures, damages to tyres & wheels, glasses.
  • Undercarrige & interior damages and non accidental breakdowns are neither covered.
Drive Licence:

A minimum age of 21 years with 3 years of driver license is required.
For rentals of group I & J 25 years are requested.

Fuel Policy:
Sol Mar deliver all cars with a full tank of petrol which must be paid by the client on arrival. The vehicles should be returned as empty as possible. No refunds on unused fuel will be done

Extras:

One way rentals
One way rentals are available between all Sol Mar locations for the car groups A to E, extra charge will apply to one way rentals. One way rentals with our Palma de Mallorca office are not possible.

Baby & booster seats:

Seats have to be pre-booked. They are available for 2,50 € per day (tax included). The maximum charge will be 30,- €.

Border exit:

It is possible to take the car to France and Andorra. To extend the insurance cover 7,- € per day (tax included) have to be paid on arrival.

Additional driver:

Additional drivers can be added to the contract for an extra charge of 1.20 € per day (tax included).

Nighthandling:

Sol Mar offers out of hours service at all airport locations. Those bookings need to have a valid flight number. An extra charge of 20,- € (tax included) will be charged on pick up to the customer.

General  conditions for Barcelona, Vigo, Asturias, Santander  Bilbao and Murcia City,Santiago de Compostela Airport

Our rate offer for the Barcelona airport office includes:
  • Unlimited mileage (except group I & J)
  • Basic insurance (CDW, TP)
  • Tax (I.V.A)
Sol Mar accepts all major credit cards such as Amex, Visa, Diners, etc. On arrival payments have to be done with credit card. Cash is not accepted!

Minimum rental period are 3 days.

The insurance excludes:
  • Lost or damaged keys, punctures, damages to tyres & wheels, glasses.
  • Sol Mar offers coverage of tyres and glasses. This is optional and will be offered to the customer on arrival.
  • Undercarrige & interior damages and non accidental breakdowns are neither covered.
Driver licence:

A minimum age of 21 years with 3 years of driver license is requiered.
For rentals of group I & J 25 years are requested.

Limited mileage:

Mileage is limited for group I & J at 200km per day. Each additional km will be charge at 0.25 € (tax included).

Fuel policy:

Sol Mar deliveres all cars with a full tank of petrol which must be paid by the client on arrival. The vehicles should be returned as empty as possible. No refunds on unused fuel will be done.

Extras:
  • Airport tax
  • An additional charge of 13.90 € (tax included) will be charged to the customer on arrival.
  • One way rentals:
One way rentals are available between all Sol Mar locations for the car groups A to E. Please find enclosed the corresponding charges. E way rentals with our Palma de Mallorca office are not possible.

  • Excess:
   
Group A to E9 there is an excess of 300 € or 3 € per day (tax included)

Group F to M has an excess of 550 € or 6 € per day (tax included).

Payment conditions between you and Sol Mar (for prepaid business):
At the beginning of each month you receive a list with all the outstanding contracts. This list should be revised and possible modifications have to be communicated to Sol Mar. Arising cost differences have to be agreed by both parts.
Payments have to be done within 30 days from receiving the list of the outstanding contracts.

We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.75% credit card charge will be added when your payment is processed.

A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Fully comprehensive insurance is included in basic rentals rates for must locations except Barcelona-, Vigo-, Santander-, Asturias-,  Bilbao airport  and Murcia city.

The Fully comprehensive insurance exclude:

  • Undercarrige & interior damages and non accidental breakdowns are neither covered.

Sol Mar offers coverage of tyres and glasses for an additional cost.

For Barcelona-, Vigo-, Santander-, Asturias-,  Bilbao airport  and Murcia city
